At BMC, the outstanding CHD Fabricator is dedicated to the safety and high efficiency of the company. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to, fabricating and assembling metal products, such as steel doors and frames, to job order; interpreting and providing verbal instructions, blueprints, door, and hardware schedules.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the organization and cleanliness of the shop facilities.

  • Perform high quality, accurate, and timely work.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Production Shop Foreman regarding the warehouse and manufacturing operations.

  • Mechanic must be capable of determining door and frame preparation requirements, layout, and certification requirements by pulling the information from door and hardware schedules and elevation drawings independent of supervision.

  • Locates and marks bending and cutting lines onto work piece.

  • Setting up and operating fabricating machines, saws, welders, shears, flame cutters, and drill presses.

  • Hammers, chips, and grinds work piece to cut, bend, and straighten metal.

  • Preheats work pieces, using hand torch of furnace.

  • Positions, aligns, fits, and welds together parts.

  • Constructs templates and fixtures.

  • Verifies conformance of work piece to specifications, using square, ruler, and measuring tape.

  • May fabricate and assemble sheet metal products.

  • May set up and operate machine tools associated with fabricating shops, such as radial drill press, mill end, and edge planer.

  • Attend Safety Meetings and safety evaluations on a periodic basis as determined by the location manager.

  • Assist in providing such reports on production activity as may be required by the location manager.

Required Skills

  • Minimum Education: High School/GED or equivalent experience.

  • Organized and timely with schedules.

  • Basic knowledge of the products and functions of the fabricated products.

  • Accomplished in welding light steel products.

  • The ability to lift 50 pounds regularly.

  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

  • Forklift experience is a plus.

Required Experience

  • Minimum Experience: 1 year experience of work of related light steel products.
